Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for Medicaid assistance?

We offer a range of home care services including nursing support, companionship, and specialized care tailored to individual needs.

Should I be worried about Medicaid assistance when it is needed?

No. The time to plan for Medicaid assistance should be well before it is needed. Oftentimes a few years. Without proper planning, you may be ineligible for assistance or delays when you need it most.

Do I need an Attorney to file my Medicaid application?

It is not necessary to retain an attorney to apply for Medicaid. Many attorneys do not practice in this area and those that do often charge significant retainer fees.

If I have a home and/or significant assets, can I still apply?

Yes, however, it will require additional planning.

If I am approved for Medicaid, will I have to change my physician?

Medicare coverage will remain the primary payer of your health care costs. If you have supplemental health insurance you will retain it as well. Therefore, your physician will not change.

How much assistance can I get at home from Medicaid?

This depends on your circumstances and medical assessment by your single entry point agency. Their case manager determines how many hours of care you will receive. Sunshine HCSS can only provide care for the exact amount of hours approved under the long-term care assessment.

Can I obtain all the information and help from the Department of Social Services?

They are required to provide information. However, they are also overwhelmingly inundated with applicants, therefore, are unable to provide any significant assistance. We can provide the information and have the expertise to help you apply.

How long does the initial consultation take and how should I prepare?

Your initial meeting will probably last between 1-2 hours. We will meet with you as often as required to ensure all your questions are answered. You should have information about your income, needs, and financial holdings. We will provide you with detailed guidelines regarding what documentation will be needed for the application process. Essentially, the more details you provide, the more accurately we can help you.

How long will the application process take?

The length of time it takes to process the application is determined by how quickly you provide us with the required documents and what type of application you are applying for, and the county of residence.
